VENTURA, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2008) – Santa
Barbara’s Charlie Butcher and Westlake’s Cameron McCauley grabbed
Ventura Raceway track championships Saturday, leaving several to be
decided during next week’s season finale at the Seaside Park venue.
McCauley is the champion of the track’s
Mini Dwarf-Pistons class. He edged Woodland Hills’ Zachery Gilmore for
the title.
The main event winners Saturday
included Ventura’s Jimmy Crawford (Sprint Cars), Wiley Miller of Yorba
Linda (Senior Sprints), Ray Estrada of Yucaipa (Pro Dwarf Cars),
Thousand Oaks’ Kevin Alverson (Senior Dwarf Cars), Sean Dodenhoff of
Bakersfield (Junior Focus Midgets), Moorpark’s Oliver Blades (Mini
Dwarf-Pistons), who only led one lap of the feature, and Camarillo’s
Tommy Velasquez, III (Mini Dwarf – Superchargers), who won his
second feature of the season.
Alverson leads the Senior Dwarf chase
and won Saturday’s feature. But Ventura’s Ed Niedzwiecki, who is second
in the standings, finished second Saturday and trails by 145 points.
Lewis leads the Mini Dwarf-Supercharger
standings. Ventura’s Devin McCree is second and still has an outside
chance to wresting the title away from Lewis.

Kent Benson, Sr., of Valencia, scored a 20-lap feature victory
as-well-as winning an 8-lap heat race in the VRA Senior Dwarf Car division.
Ventura drivers Ed Niedzwiecki and Dave Hume placed second and third and Hume
won the other heat race. Kevin Alverson, of Newbury Park, and Tom Bellinger, of
Cypress, were fourth and fifth. *The 20-lap VRA Pro Dwarf Car main event was
shortened to fifteen laps when they too had problems keeping their 21-car field
in motion around the 1/3-mile oval. Simi Valley's Jeff Shelton captured the
victory with Brent Stevens, of Thousand Oaks, second and Brian Saxton, of
Mentone, third. Fourth and fifth were Eric Alton, of Simi Valley, and Chris
Olson of Chino Hills. Shelton, Olson, and Ryan Diatte, of Salinas, won 8-lap
heat races.

Brian Saxton drove to his sixth
win
in the Pro Dwarf car feature. Angel Figueroa was second.
Brent Stevens, Chris Olson and Jeff Shelton finished in the
top five. Saxton has 2,640 points to lead the way over
Ray Estrada (2,175) and Brent Stevens (2,055).
Senior Dwarf Car racer Ed Niedzwiecki earned his fourth
win. Points leader Kevin Alverson (2,625) was second in the
main. Alverson has 10 top-five finishes, but hasn't won a
race. Niedzwiecki has 2,450 points to rank second.
Ricky Lewis won his fourth feature in the Mini Dwarfs
Superchargers
class
and holds on to the points lead (2,950). Devin McCree, with
five wins, was second. McCree has 2,935 points and Tommy
Velasquez is third in points with 2,705.
Jimmy McDonald was third in the feature, followed by Cody
Majors and Joseph Magana.

Newlywed Chuck Lippert
captured the VRA Pro Dwarf Car feature. Points leader Brian Saxton was second.
Chris Olson was third. Tom Stephens Sr. and Ben Sheen rounded out the top five.
It was only Lipper's second race this season and fifth
overall in his new car.
Ed Niedzwiecki of Port
Hueneme was victorious in the Senior Dwarf Car main. Mike Bailey was second and
Mike Neal third. Roy Coe and Tom Bellinger finished in the top five. Kevin
Alverson, the points leader with 2,390, finished sixth. Niedzwiecki is second
with 2,195 points.
Tommy Velasquez III won
his 10th career VRA Mini Dwarfs Supercharger feature. Ricky Lewis was second and
Devin McCree third. McCree leads in points with 2,705 through 12 races. Lewis is
second at 2,695. Velasquez is third with 2,540.
Cameron McCauley earned
the win in the Mini Dwarfs Piston feature and extended the points lead to 2,925
through 12 races. Zachary Gilmore was second in the main and ranks second in
points with 2,510.

There were 137 race cars
spread over eight divisions and it was the largest crowd of the Sprint Car
season. The July 30-31 Ventura County Fair races will be standing-room only to
cap a July to Remember celebration for Ventura Raceway promoter Jim Naylor.
Tom Bellinger won the
12-lap Senior Dwarf Car feature. Bellinger started 10th in the 19-car race.
Points leader Kevin Alverson was second. Ron Capodieci was third.
Brian Saxton, the Pro Dwarf Car points leader and former
champion, earned the 12-lap win, holding off Angel Figueroa.
Ray Estrada was third.
Saxton has 1,675 points. Brent Stevens is second with 1,345.
It was Saxton's first win since May 3 and his fourth
overall.
Luke Boles was the VRA
Junior Midgets winner. Cameron Dougan was second in the 15-lap race. Tyler
Jerman was third. Boles is the points leader with 2,170 through 11 races.
Brennan Rogers is second at 2,085.
Cody Majors led all 12 laps in the Mini Dwarf Superchargers
race. Jimmy McDonald was second and Devin McCree third.
McCree has 2,230 points to lead the division through 10
races. Ricky Lewis is second at 2,230.
Cameron McCauley won the
Mini Dwarfs Pistons feature. Joe Snyder was second. McCauley is the points
leader with 2,420. Cole Wakim is second at 2,185.

In VRA Kid’s Class action, Austen Figueroa
took his first ever feature win Saturday night. He was followed by point leader
Riley Helland, Luke Boles, Nick Valenzuela and Cameron Dougan. Valenzuela and
Mark Garrett took heat race wins. In Mini Dwarf Pistons, point leader Cameron
McCauley took the win in the feature and the one heat race. Finishing second
through fifth were Cole Wakim, Oliver Blades, Zach Gilmore and Nick Velasquez.
In Mini Dwarf Super Chargers, the main event win went to Devin McCree with Jimmy
McDonald, Cody Major, Tommy Velasquez and Chase Lippert following him across the
finish line. Heat wins went to McCree and class point leader Ricky Lewis.

Angel Figueroa won the 20-lap Pro Dwarf Car main event by
passing Brian Saxton on the final turn. There was a yellow flag early in one the
best races in the series. Saxton finished second. Brent Stevens was third. Ray
Estrada and Jeff Shelton rounded out the top five. Saxton is the points
leader with 1,420. Stevens is second at 1,345.
Reigning Senior Dwarf Car champion Ed Niedzwiecki was thrilled
to be back in the winner's circle for the first time since Nov. 17, 2007.
Kevin Alverson was second and Dave Hume was third. Mike Bailey and Bill Van
Praag completed the top five. After six races, Alverson is the points
leader with 1,335. Van Praag is second at 1,280. Niedzwiecki is third with
1,085.
Jimmy McDonald won the Mini Dwarf Supercharger feature over
Ricky Lewis. Tommy Velasquez was third. Lewis is the points leader with 1,860.
Devin McCree is second with 1,760 points.
Oliver Blades celebrated his first win in the Mini Dwarf Pistons
feature. Zachary Gilmore was second and Cameron McCauley was third.
McCauley leads in points with 1,900 and Cole Wakim is second with 1,810 points.

Brent Stevens of Thousand Oaks snapped Mentone's Brian Saxton's
four-race win streak in the VRA Pro Dwarf Car series.
"It feels like my first win," said an elated Stevens in the
winner's circle. "Brian has been kicking our butt,"
said Stevens. "I'm sorry he wrecked." Stevens
had taken over the lead
from the pole-starting Saxton, but a crash knocked him out. Mike

Bill Van Praag earned the Ventura Racing Association Senior
Sprint Car feature while Kevin Alverson finished second and Ed Niedzwiecki was
third. Van Praag is the points leader at 710 and Jim Scribellito is second at
695.
Brian Saxton earned his third Pro Dwarf Car win. Lars Wolfe
finished second. Ray Estrada was third. Saxton has 780 points through three
races. Brent Stevens is second with 645 points.
Cole Wakim prevailed in the Mini Dwarf Pistons Division. Zachery
Gilmore was second in the 12-lap race. Wakim has 950 points and Cameron McCauley
is second in points with 925.
Ricky Lewis won the Mini Dwarfs Supercharger Division feature.
Devin McCree was second. Lewis is first in points with 1,020. Devin McCree is
second at 915.

Wakim's son, Cole, has been red hot in winning junior
races, so it might be dad's turn to be in the winner's circle.
Jim Scribellito of El Cajon captured the VRA Senior
dwarf car feature. Bill Van Praag was second. Jon Prechtl, John Lynch
and Tom Bellinger rounded out the top five.
Brian Saxton, former Pro Dwarf Car champion from
Mentone, started eighth and captured the win over Brent Stevens, Ray
Estrada, Jeff Shelton and Dillon Hume.
Cole Wakim prevailed in the VRA Mini Dwarf Pistons
division. Cameron McCauley was second. Nick Velasquez was third.
Kameron Garofalo was fourth and Zachary Gilmore fifth.

Brian Saxton, a former two-time pro dwarf car champion,
was back in victory circle. Saxton weaved his way from a fifth-place
starting spot and held off Brent Stevens. "We had a good run tonight,"
said Saxton. Jeff Shelton was third. Ray Estrada and Lars Wolfe rounded
out the top five.
Move over senior dwarf car drivers, because Jim
Scribellito, last season's pro champion, is in the 45-and-older
division. He started third and defeated reigning champion Ed Niedzwiecki
and Kevin Alverson. Bill Van Praag finished fourth and Dave Hume was
fifth.
Cole Wakim won the mini dwarf pistons race. Cameron
McCauley was second and Nick Velasquez was third.
Ricky Lewis prevailed in the mini dwarfs supercharger
