rromine@VenturaCountyStar.com Saturday night was the next-to-last night of racing at the Ventura County Fairgrounds dirt oval. It was a night to crown a number of division champions. John Lynch finished fourth to win the VRA dwarf cars senior championship. Ed Niedzwiecki started seventh and finished first. Tom Bellinger, Bill VanPragg, Lynch and Glen Monk were in the top five. In the dwarf car pro class, Brian Saxton earned the championship. Chuck Lippert, the nearest challenger to Saxton, fell out early and finished 20th. Rob Anderson finished first in the pro race, while Dave Moser, Saxton, Chad Kincaid and Ben Sheen comprised the top five. Lynch was the senior champion with 2,320 points. Niedzwiecki finished second with 2,225 points, followed by Ballinger (2,135), Gary Conditt (1,740) and Jon Prechtl (1,645). Pro champion Saxton had 2,210 points. Lippert had 2,020 points for second. Anderson was third with 1,910 points. Curt Cook (1,865) and Kincaid (1,830) rounded out the top five. In the VRA mini dwarfs, a non-points division, Tommy Velasquez won the first feature against Megan Kautz, Kayle Brazel, Kalin Hamilton and Austin Aguilar. Riley Helland won the second main event. Ed Niedzwiecki is second with 1,785. Tom Bellinger is third with 1,400. Brent Stevens won the pro dwarf car feature. Chuck Lippert was second and Brain Saxton was third. rromine@VenturaCountyStar.com The VRA senior dwarf car drivers turned in one of their best races. Jim Scribellito, Ed Niedzwiecki, John Lynch, James Soltis and Gary Conditt rounded out the top five. Niedzwiecki is the points leader with 1,785. Lynch (1,750) is second, followed by Tom Bellinger (1,580). In the pro dwarf car feature, Chuck Lippert was the winner. Rob Anderson, Brian Saxton, Cole Milton and Curt Cook finished in the top five. Both Anderson and Saxton had to overcome penalties coming from the rear to finish near the top. Saxton is the points leader with 1,620. Lippert is second with 1,600 points and and Anderson is third with 1,395. Tommy Velasquez won the VRA mini dwarf car feature. Kalyn Hamilton was second. Joey Freshour, Emma Alderman and Mason White comprised the top five. This class runs for no points.

Niedzwiecki remains the points leader with 1,575. Lynch is second with 1,555 and Bellinger is third at 1,415. Brian Saxton, the pro dwarf car points leader and defending series champion, won the 20-lap feature. Chad Kincaid was second, followed by Cole Milton, Rob Anderson and Thomas Velasquez. Chuck Lippert is second in points with 1,380. Kincaid is third with 1,245. The VRA mini dwarf cars had two main events. In the first main, Riley Helland was the winner. Kayle Brazel, Cameron McCauley, Ricky Lewis and Nick Velasquez were top-five finishers. Austin Figueroa was the second main-event winner. Rob Anderson finished third and Jeff Shelton was fourth. Bill Van Praag won the senior dwarf car feature. Ed Neidzwiecki was second, followed by John Lynch and Gary Conditt. Riley Helland was the first main event winner for mini dwarf cars. Austin Figueroa was second and Tyler Jarman was third. Joey Freshour was the second main event winner. Kayle Brazel was second and Emma Alderman was third. Cotrell was the pro dwarf car winner. Stinson was second. Chuck Lippert and Daniel Weger finished in the top four. The Aug. races will feature the popular demolition derby both nights. The pony stocks, dwarf cars and NMRA TQ midgets will be joined by the mini dwarf cars and junior midgets on Aug. 2. Star Simi Valley's Jeff Shelton drew the pole position and never relinquished that spot as he went wire to wire to win the VRA dwarf car main event. The win moved Shelton into the points lead, passing Chuck Lippert of Granada Hills who had to leave midway through the main event when he was involved in a crash. Fontana's Rob Anderson finished second, just a half-car length behind Shelton. In the VRA senior dwarf car main event, Port Hueneme's Ed Niedzwiecki led the first 13 laps but was overtaken by eventual winner Bill Van Praag, also of Port Hueneme, with just two laps remaining in the 15-lap race. Everyone finished lead lap in both the 8 lap heat and 12 lap feature. Chris Olson beat opening night winner Christian Copley in the main event after starting on the pole. Copley came from 4th to get second and Ramon Rivas ran third. The Pro Dwarf Cars split 18 cars into a pair of heat races. Their heat races ended up with more laps scored than the feature. Former champion Shelton won heat 1 from fifth as front row starters Behmer and Anderson finished 2-3. Chuck Lippert came from fifth to win heat 2 over Chad Kincaid and 2005 champion Brian Saxton. Sixteen of the 18 feature starters were still running when the race was called after just four rounds. Anderson emerged as the victor ahead of Behmer, Shelton, Kincaid, Chuck Lippert, Saxton, Michael Allawos, Cole Milton, Tom Sera and Curt Cook. The Senior Dwarf Cars attracted 20 entries and ran a two heat format also. Fifth starting Niedzwiecki won heat 1 over 8th starter Bellinger and 7th starting Glen Monk. The new mini dwarfs race on a smaller infield track and split the 16 car turnout into a 12 lap B Main and a 12 lap A Main. Riley Helland made it three straight pole wins in heat 3 over Austin Figueroa and Chase Lippert. Chase Lippert was relegated to the B Main but won from the pole over Tyler Jerman, Emma Alderman, Eddie Vasquez and Kayle Brazel. Lewis was a scratch from the A Main to leave 7 starters and Austin Figueroa won from third with pole starter Orozco second ahead of Blade, McCree, Helland and Velasquez, the final lead lap car. Copley won the Junior Midget heat race ahead of Charlie Butcher and Ramon Rivas. Olson ran fourth in the heat, but that put him on the pole for the 12 lap main and he won ahead of Copley, Rivas, Butcher, Drew Wright, Connor Calhoun and Michaela Stanton. The season debut for the VRA dwarf cars and their three divisions saw 20 pros,
20 seniors and 16 juniors all in action. Brian Saxton rebounded from a fierce
flip at Bakersfield to score a clean sweep in the Pro action. He was the 2005
track champion and he won the 20 lap feature from sixth starting. Chuck Lippert
came all the way from 15th to finish second ahead of Chris Taylor and former
champion Jeff Shelton. John Lynch won the 15 lap feature for the senior division
from third starting. Fellow second row starter Tom Bellinger was second and Bill
VanPraag came from 13th to get third. The new Junior Dwarf Car class had an
impressive debut and Austin Figueroa won the 12 lap feature race ahead of Tanner
Kershaw and Tyler Jerman. The new Junior Midgets also debuted with Christian
Copley winning both the heat race and the 12 lap feature. Charlie Butcher was
second in the main event.
